California Non-Resident CCW Qualification Session

Starting April 22, 2025, California has begun issuing out-of-state CCW permits. California Penal Code section 26165, subdivision (a)(6) requires applicants to complete a live‐fire shooting exercise for each handgun they intend to carry in California. The live-fire course must be completed with a qualified instructor. We are now offering to conduct the required live-fire course for prospective applicants!

Scheduling:
- To schedule a session, please email us at contact@urbanfirearmsociety.com or text us at 617-817-1050
- Availability is limited. We will primarily schedule sessions on Saturdays at the BGRA location. We can occassionally conduct them at this location on Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays and Mondays.
- For the Braintree location, we may occassionally conduct the sessions on Thursdays or Mondays.
Important!
You MUST have started the CA CCW permit application process and received approval from the licensing authority to move forward with the live-fire test before scheduling a session with us.
Details:
- The actual test requirements will vary depending on the county you are applying with. Please check your county's website for details.
- You will have 3 attempts to pass and a time limit of 30 minutes. Additional attempts will require a $25 fee. You may have up to five total attempts per session.
- You must bring each pistol you intend to carry in California and pass the test with each one. If you bring one pistol, you may use all three attempts with that pistol. If you bring three pistols, you will have one attempt per pistol.
- The amount of ammo you need will depend on which CA county you are applying with and on the number of attempts you perform. If the session is conducted at the Boston Gun & Rifle range, you must purchase the ammo from the range per their policy as they are a 100% lead-free range. If the session is conducted at the Braintree range, you may bring your own ammo.
- The session does NOT include private instruction or training. The instructor is there to observe and certify that you completed the qualification. If you do not feel confident in your ability to pass, you may add on private training for an additional $50 and the session will extend to a total time of 1 hour. We make no guarantees on your ability to pass the qualification, whether you receive instruction or not.
- NOTE: Attending the session will fulfill one part of the training requirements for your CCW application but does not guarantee that you will receive the permit. Permit approvals and issuance are at the discretion of the California licensing authorities.
